- Download the archive and find the file called conversations.json
- Upload that file to Continio via Settings → Import history

- Click Export data
- Download the archive and find the conversations export file
- Upload it to Continio via Settings → Import history
What happens when you import
Import runs in two phases:
All conversations and messages are stored to your Continio history. This completes in seconds regardless of file size. You can close the import panel and use Continio normally as soon as this is done.
Embeddings are generated for search, thread summaries are created, and life anchors are extracted from your historical conversations. This runs in the background and can take several hours for large files. It does not affect chat performance.
You can check progress in Settings → Past imports. The status updates live.
Anchor extraction from imports
During enrichment, Continio reads your historical conversations and extracts life anchors just as it does for live conversations. Anchor dates reflect when things were originally said — not when you imported them.
This means if you mentioned in a conversation two years ago that you live in a particular city, that anchor will have the correct original date. Your memory builds a genuinely historical picture, not just a record of your recent activity.
For very large files (tens of thousands of messages), enrichment takes time. It also pauses when you're actively chatting so it doesn't affect your experience. For a 40,000-message file, expect enrichment to run over several hours in the background.
Fire-and-forget
Import is designed to be fire-and-forget. Upload your file, confirm it's started, and get on with using Continio. You don't need to watch a progress bar. The conversations appear in your history as they're processed, and anchors appear in My Context as enrichment completes.
If something goes wrong
Failed or stuck import jobs appear in Settings → Past imports with an error message. You can delete a failed job (which rolls back any imported data) and try again. If a job is stuck for more than 10 minutes in the processing phase, it will be flagged automatically.
If you're seeing persistent issues, email hello@continio.app with the job ID from the Past imports panel.
