How it works · Memory
Memory.
Continio builds a picture of who you are from what you actually say. Not guesses, not assumptions — only what you've shared. Here's exactly how it works.
What memory is
Continio extracts life anchors from your conversations — stable, reusable facts about you. These are things like where you live, what you're working on, decisions you've made, preferences you've stated, and context about your health, relationships, or work.
Anchors are not a transcript of your conversations. They're a distilled, structured record of things Continio should carry forward. Think of them as the things a knowledgeable colleague would just know about you without having to be told each time.
You can view, edit, and delete any anchor at any time. Go to Settings → My Context. Nothing is hidden, nothing runs silently.
What gets extracted
Continio extracts anchors across these types:
| Type | Examples |
|---|---|
| Identity | Your name, how you describe yourself, neurodivergent identity, background |
| Location | Where you live, where you work, recent moves |
| Role | Your job, business, professional context |
| Relationships | Partner, family members, close colleagues mentioned by name |
| Health | Conditions, medications, dietary needs you've mentioned |
| Projects | Things you're actively building, running, or launching |
| Preferences | Tools you use, communication style, formatting preferences |
| Decisions | Settled choices — pricing you've locked in, direction you've committed to |
| Working patterns | How you like to work, recurring themes in how you approach problems |
What does NOT get extracted
Continio is deliberately conservative. These things are filtered out:
- Things said about other people (not you)
- Opinions you're exploring rather than holding
- Questions you're asking (not statements you're making)
- One-off requests or temporary preferences ("just for this project")
- Anything phrased as hypothetical or uncertain
- Short messages with no first-person life signal
- Code, technical content, and copy-writing prompts
When extraction happens
Extraction runs silently after every user message in a conversation. It uses a small language model (Claude Haiku) to scan for extractable facts. This runs in the background — it doesn't slow down your response.
Extraction also runs during history import, using the original timestamps from your past conversations so that dates reflect when things were actually said, not when they were imported.
The model can miss things or occasionally extract something slightly wrong. That's why editing is always available. If an anchor is inaccurate, correct it rather than delete it — the anchor type and context are still useful even if the detail needs adjusting.
How memory is used in responses
Continio doesn't load your entire memory into every response. Instead, on each message it selects:
- Ambient anchors — the 8 most relevant anchors by recency and type, always present
- Relevant extras — anchors that match the content of your current message, added on top
This is injected into the system context before the model responds. The model is instructed to let this inform its tone and awareness, and to surface it naturally when directly relevant — not to recite it back or add it as unsolicited commentary.
If you ask "what do you know about me?" Continio will give you its full picture in biography mode.
Memory provenance
Each anchor shows which thread it came from. You can click through to the source conversation to see exactly what you said that produced it. This is live for thread-level provenance. Message-level provenance (showing the exact message) is in progress.
Correcting memory
- Go to Settings → My Context
- Find the anchor you want to change
- Click Edit to update the detail, or Delete to remove it entirely
- You can also add anchors manually — things that are true about you but haven't come up in conversation
Changes take effect on your next message.
Memory limits by tier
| Tier | Anchors | History |
|---|---|---|
| Free trial (30 days) | Unlimited | Full |
| Free | 20 anchors | Last 30 days |
| Pro / Max / Founders | Unlimited | Full history |
If you downgrade from Pro to Free, anchors above 20 are retained but not actively used until you upgrade again. They are not deleted.
